I see that shortly afterwards, there was one of those concerts on the National Programme (1500m) being relayed over the television sound channel (7.23m). Hi Fi !
I would have been an avid radio listener in those days (and tele-viewer, if I could have afforded it!). Steve

I am now wondering how F2 reception must have affected the AM sound? I am guessing there would have been some distortion rather than noticeable reverberation (?). How the much more common FM sound encountered in DX'ing would have been affected is another matter...

Thanks Trevor. Talking of the Mickey Mouse films that graced pre-war television screens, there's of course also this one... the last film shown in September 1939. The famous section starts at 6' 12".

I note the referred URLs are now 'not available'. I have attached a comparison image set to this post. From this, it appears the image photographed in New York must indeed have been a mirror image. Maybe the lid of the mirror-lid receiver was swung back and the camera mounted face-down above the screen? I haven't yet checked whether the cartoon off-screens were also mirror images... from Peter's earlier post (oddly) it would appear not. Steve

When I was looking for test signals I also came across another piece of info. BTL used to use a loop of film of the head and shoulders of a woman who turned her head. There was a gif or something of it on the web but I now can't find it. Anyway it turns out she was Madeleine Carroll and the sequence appears near the end of the film "I was a Spy"
