Thanks Albert. I've met Mike Harrison at least once but I don't know him.
We also have at least one Talaria projector.

Hi,
When was the last time these devices worked? How did Lucien come into possession of them? Kilograms, voltages, dimensions, price and advanced professional technology are impressive. Adam

Lucien was an avid collector with a lot of good contacts. I think I may have made the initial contact for the big TX. At the ICA (or possibly another major London gallery) there was an exhibition c2015 that had as its centrepiece a previous generation UHF TX. Much bigger than ours. By chance I got talking to an ex-BBC (now Arqiva) engineer who worked at CP. He arranged a visit for me to both CP and Croydon where I collected a few souvenirs. I gave Lucien the contact details and he charmed the Harris TX out of them.
Many people contributed to the crowdfunding to have this moved. I don't know the total cost but it was probably around £5000. I don't know the route the Eidophor took from Odeon Leicester Square but I don't think it was directly to Lucien. There is simply a huge amount of stuff that he collected as part of his prospective museum project. Steam powered generator sets, the lift machinery from the old St Pancras Grand Hotel, loads of Strowger kit, loads of organs (mainly Compton), loads of domestic appliances, loads of home computer hardware, loads of stage, film and TV lighting. And much more! I've attached a photo of just one small part of his Suffolk store taken when I first visited in February this year. The Harris TX and the Eidophor are partially visible.

I watched the Mike Harrison video of the Eidophor, thanks for the link, right thru and found it most interesting. Didnt understand it all but no matter... German engineering again, at that time they were the tops.
Lucian was just an amazing man ... Not put off by size and expense collecting all this old tech. Gary

The Eidophor was actually Swiss. Unlike the cuckoo clock which was German. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041959/quotes/
Lucien was indeed amazing. As I've probably said before, I first met him at Dulwich when he was 14. His parents were amazing too. Alex died three years ago, Jenny is still here, in her late 80s. She's coming to us for lunch on Saturday. Lucien seemed to be busy 24+ hours per day and 7+ days per week. His day job was in the film industry latterly specialising in video assist and latterly rushes for prestige films such as Dunkirk where he worked very closely with Christopher Nolan. He inspired loyalty and gave much help to younger colleagues. I was one of his early mentors and as is so often the case he soared high. But too near the sun and crashed to earth far too soon.

This is the original discussion about the rescue of the Harris TX: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/show...p?t=114560
Don't forget the Ramco auction of some of Lucien's collection. If this goes well there will be a larger auction later this year: https://auctions.ramco.uk/auctions/8875/ramco-11355

A friend of the BECG has found this photo which is understood to be the projection box at Oden Leicester Square. The Eidophor is partially visible beyond the three film projectors. Beyond the Eidophor there's seems to be a trolley or rack with a TV monitor on top.
