US Television 1938

It's not often that you get to see a 1938 screen image compared to a photo of the same scene. This one is in New York and I would assume RCA. Could the peripheral shading be over compensated tilt and bend? (1939 Plymouth.)

Fascinating, and really pretty good quality. Looks a bit like flare in the lens but hard to tell. Where are they from?

I don't know the original source. I got them from the Facebook group: Early Television and Television Hobby experimenters.

"The Telemobile Units were delivered at the end of 1937, but for a year or more, NO pickups were planned from the field. Everything originated in Rockefeller Plaza.
In Nov. '38 came the first spot news coverage (probably the only such during the experimental era). The units left the garage in LI City to cover the dedication of a new swimming pool in Astoria. On the way they spotted a fire in an abandoned building on Ward's Island in the East River. The video reached 30 Rock okay, but W2XBS may have been off air at the time.

I'd guess that'll be the 441 line standard. The 525 line standard with FM sound started started in 1941, correct?

Yes, looking in ETF I think that would have been 441 lines.

Shades of Dr Who and time travel there...... Fascinating.

Ah yes, but just like in the UK the marketing departments of the car makers always promote next years model at the motor show.
