Yesterday Simon Vaughan posted on Facebook a very interesting set of photos taken off the screen of a television in February 1939. We know the date because many of them are scenes from a televised play "The Royal Family of Broadway" that was shown on the 13th of February.
The television set clearly had a passing resemblance to the 701 but was direct viewing. I'm fairly convinced that this set has had the same treatment as the 902 in that the vertically mounted 9" CRT and lens have been replaced by the 12" CRT 6/7 that is short enough to be mounted horizontally for direct viewing as in the 902A and the studio monitors.
Peter.
