Pye did much the same thing with the Wavechange switching on the 39J/H and the Tone Control on the PE80. I suppose it was the only way to tell what you'd selected.

Well, apart from the left speaker being dead, it sings like a baby, the VHF reception was not the valve, Just needed T1, T3, And T5 peaking, pulls in well now, AM, LW, and SW are fine without any adjustment, I also removed that capacitor that had been added to the ferrite aerial. So Will have another look at the speaker tomorrow, and meter it to see if the coil is O/C. then time to start stripping the cabinet.

And no hum either.

Happy to say, the Electrostatic speaker and magic eye are both working.

Hello Rob, I once repaired an Electrostatic in my grundig, they are fairly simple to do.

Hi Mark, they are attached to a plastic slider each, which shows through the dial how far the bass and treble are turned up.

Yes, I wondered if that was what they did, which made me think "why didn't they just put a pointer on the knob?". However, upon seeing the picture, I note that they are thumbwheel adjustments - so it all makes sense now

Looks like a really lovely set. I'm fighting an urge to get into "woodies" - I thought that I'd be happy with just a Hacker Mayflower 1 and 2, but I feel that my resolve is weakening

Well the speaker measures ok, I think the problem being that at sometime it has been wet and the speaker cone is nearly flat across it's surface, hence the coil is not sitting in the magnet, but above it, it works whwn finger pressure is applied to push the cone in, but never mind, as I have located a second set for spares that I am collecting next week,

Also hope the cabinet might bee a bit better than mine, as it has been in the house over a week now, and still smells really musty, with the smell getting worse after the radio has been on for a while, and the cabinet starts to warm up.
