Triggered by Trevor's thread I had a look through Television Today and came across an article reporting progress at RCA. At this time they were using 240 lines non-interlaced and their source of synchronising pulses was mechanical and similar to the source that the BBC later introduced to avoid criticism from Scophony to satisfy the needs of supporting systems with mechanical inertia.
