Murphy A316G record player

Hi all.

Not a technical information request, but I'm looking for an article that was in the dealer magazine Murphy News around March 1958 announcing the first Murphy portable record player model A316G.

I'm going to document a restoration of one of these for a school project shortly, and a readable scan in jpg. (Doesn't need to be a huge file!), of the article would help give some historical reference to what I'm doing.

Can anyone assist?

Mike Barker is past chairman of the BVWS and the UK's leading collector of all things Murphy.

Yes Mike certainly is Mr Murphy, a very wise choice.
I do wonder though if he has or even has info on the these sets.

Hi Amie, see if you can find anyone with copies of Radio and Electrical Trading. It was a trade weekly at the period and reviewed all new products

As one would expect from Murphy even the most basic record player is properly designed.
A double wound mains transformer is much better than those horrible "live chassis" record players with the  UL84 and UY85 valves.  These days I won't accept such junk for repair. 
Choice of valve is a bit strange but as an alternative the Mazda 30PL1 could be considered although I've never tried it myself in a record player. Some Pye Black Boxes use the PCL83.

I did spend a while on the net, I specifically wanted the Murphy news article, I did speculate why they used a PCL 83 for the design, but they probably just used that as it would have already been in their inventory for use in their TV products.

Murphy build quality seemed to have been quite good and the radio and TV cabinets were mostly very stylish, however I've been discussing with a friend how some of their  circuitry sometimes had a crease in the blueprint quality, though no doubting that it had good functionality....

The 30PL1 will work in them. The PCL83 is of course an odd choice as Murphy would have sourced valves from Mazda so again the 30PL1 would have been ideal if they wanted a TV valve due to cost cutting, odd they went to Mullard for the PCL83. The higher versions of the V300 series used a 30PL1 for audio. Some used a 30FL1 for audio too.
