One local company do rewinds (Raewinds in Galston) excellent company and take in work from all over the UK. Used them many times

He said that for that motor it's 60% of the cost of a new one, and probably better than new. I'm sure there are plenty of motors, especially smaller ones, that are totally uneconmic to rewind in the UK. Though possibly not in low income countries.

There's a company here that rewinds motors but they specialise in rebuilding starter motors, alternators & dynamos etc. for vintage cars and, in this area especially, vintage tractors.
ISTR it is about 160 quid to rebuild a vintage starter motor.
