April fool Swedish style in 1962

My Swedish isn't up to this (is yours?) but I think it's about using nylon stockings to convert monochrome TV to colour:

Anyone remember those whirly discs that gave the appearance of colour on a B&W set? Not the CBS 1948 sequential color [sic] system which was a legitimate if misguided attempt at a colour system.

Remember reading an article in a magazine (practical TV, wireless world?) about TV's that were built here in UK & exported to Australia or New Zealand had to have the tube installed upside down or have an inversion circuit as they were t'other side of the world & inverted magnetic field. Of course it was the April issue...

Also in a motoring magazine that tractors had to have special extra strong brakes as big wheels at back & small at front mean't it was always trying to run away downhill. Also April issue...

I've written an April Fool for Practical TV in the late 1980s. It's on my website. The inverted picture "down under" story was Darryl Hock (the Aurora man) and me doing it on one of the vintage websites a few years ago. It may well have been the one where all my posts have been deleted. I've probably got notes about it somewhere but finding them might take a while.

I remember reading somewhere that early colour TV's that were exported to Australia or New Zealand had to have the convergence adjusted because of earths magnetic field being different down there, unless that was also an April fool joke & I fell for it...

I believe that was true. I think it troubled purity as much as convergence. TBH, they'd need a full setup after a long journey anyway. For pre-converged CRTs it's just about possible that there were northern and southern hemisphere versions. But that's speculation.

Turn a delta gun TV round when on and the purity will go off. A degauss (switch off for a few minutes and back on) will clear it.

I once had a conversation with one of the designers and engineers at the company that took over Barco's CRT business. (Can't remember the name, pretty sure the name began with a 'U')

He said they had a small completely magnetically shielded room into which they used to place monitors being send to Australasia to set them up beforehand. He said the room had a couple of controls by which they could set up the magnetic 'field' pattern for any part of the world. Seemed a genuine conversation to me.
