The laminates are most likely made to fit two types mounting clamp so the slot would have a machine screw passed through it if the other type of bracket was fitted.

It seems a bit odd to deliberately redce the Core cross section like that.
What's it for Ed? Alan

The fixing point has been located where the two loops of magnetic flux dive into the center of the windings so it is the part of the core that carries least magnetic flux. The magnetic flux does follow a rounded shape no matter whet it is passing through.

I have now established that the ground terminal on the new board draws 25 to 30ma so it will be easy to generate a negative rail for the negative reference voltage to get zero volts at the output.
Also I have checked the board for its ability to deal with stubborn inrush currants when loads are attached. I used a 110V 650W lamp that reads 10 ohms cold and it was able to get it hot enough to raise its resistance high enough to get out of currant limiting with the output set to 23 volts. The board also has a facility to program the short circuit currant when it trips but I have no info apart from a pair of terminals marked ISC that are across the BE junction of the currant limiter transistor and its base resistor. There are also resistors to set the range of the pot so it is a matter of reducing a resistor value and increasing the value of the pot to get the range. There is also a remote sense terminal too. Another useful thing I have found is that there is a resistor to set the currant limit so there will be something to fill the currant limit position in the front panel that will actually work unlike the old one. I have chosen the 30 volt 1 amp route with the center tap being capacitor coupled to a second bridge rectifier to shift it to being a negative rail to supply for the reference voltage.

Sounds like a project for cold winter nights. Has the Gulf Stream suddenly reversed?

The jet stream's dropped.
Lawrence.

I have opened things up a little bit more and the thorn fans can have a part number for the transformer now.
It is 6D3-014. The circuit breakers are Littlefuse 2 amp units. |
