Oh my... this takes me back to the early '70s, when every other handyman thought himself a potential radio and TV repairer, and so would put by a stock of valves when the opportunity arose. After being stung a couple of times buying a set that turned out to have been denuded of valves I took to carrying a screwdriver or two to every auction so as to ease the back open and check the innards. Maybe I'd better resume the habit, though valve radios don't turn up nearly as often at Fakenham auction as they did 55 years ago.

I didn't know EL85 were scarce. I'm sure I offered some on ukvrr 3 or 4 years ago, fairly cheap. Maybe some EL86 as well. Never EL84 as they will sell easily for good money elsewhere.

EL85 was primarily for car radios I believe, being a lower power than EL84 etc. It is not pin compatible with EL84 or EL86.
Its not exactly rare but now uncommon and I don't have one in stock.

If he/she flogs the valves and speakers off on ebay, why does he/she not just sell the sets on ebay?
Unless its a carriage thing, too lazy to pack a set I suppose.
