"New" workbench in the garage, with some R7 luminaires above , one of which was fitted with a LED R7 "bulb".

The halogen on the other end failed yesterday, so another LED "bulb" was installed.

Turned it all back on to see if it worked & lo! the older LED decides it's End Of Life & dies.

So that one is now a halogen bulb instead. 

Sometimes you can't win, sometimes you can just about break even.

Couldn't believe it.

Then again, the law of sod dictates things like this.

Indeed. I witched myself by taking a new halogen bulb down to the garage at the same time as the LED thing.

Can't remember how long the defunct LED lamp lasted: it was in parallel with the halogen in a security light for a number of years.

Bought from Wilko.

As I recall it wasn't particularly cheap.

The shock of a change of location must have been too much for it.

Not quite om topic but it is about lamps

Anyone had LED buls that dont switch on at full brightness? Sometimes they do but most times they dont. We have some in a display cabinet that I keep saying I will investigate but its not easy to get too.

I've not seen that with LEDs except where they are dimmable and being used with a trailing edge dimmer. Trailing edge dimmers usually have a slow start over a second or two. Traditional leading edge dimmers work badly with LEDs.

I have a few LEDs (fixed fittings with what I think are fairly clever drive electronics) that have a perceptible delay before starting.

Just found the packaging for the failed bulb: "Up to 25 years life".

Yeah, right.
