The problem with low bollards and walls is that they are well nigh invisible to the driver when you're close to them. I got rid of the low brick pillars each side of my driveway after they had been hit too often. Only the other day I heard a crunch as a car caught a bollard a lot harder than the one in the photo.

It's not always just low bollards either as I have seen cars damage their front ends on high kerbs in car parks as there is usually a low fairing under the front these days which readily catches.

The security posts have become very common around where we live. Another amusement is seeing many are defending cars that thieves would be most unlikely to target.

In 70 years of motoring it was bound to happen to me sometime, and it did.
Reversing into 1ft high boundary wall.

I knew somebody who was finally persuaded to stop driving at the age of about 95 when he claimed that a tree had backed into his car. The guy had been a racing driver in his time.

I recall watching an elderly gentleman driving over the kerbs in Homebase carpark in Swansea.
He really should not have been driving. And, on reflection, nor should my late father. He was still driving at 93. I've given up due to lack of interest at 68.

What on earth are the parking sensors bleeping about - I can't see any obstruction. Crunch. I believe what they are telling me now.

I sent a non-radio friend the Ouch pic and he thought it was me and our car. No! I would not have been smiling.
The car or cars are at an unusual bungalow near me and on my walks. It has one proper long drive where he has a Jag parked. Yes! another security post. On the other side a drive in has been created that is short and butts up to the front of the property. The Range Rover just goes in there with little to spare. So I guess even if his reversing radar detected the post he woudnt have had time to stop the vehicle. Our Honda Jazz doesnt need a security post as its unlikely any thieves would want it Gary |
