Hedghog power supply

I have been asked by a forum member "what voltage and current is the power supply for the Hedgehog II"

The forum wont let me reply as I am their ignore list
So I am replying here instead.

It is easy to forget. I had to check myself.

So it needs a regulated power supply with an output between 7.5 and 9 volts and that can supply at least 300 mA. Center pin +.
That will supply any of the Hedghog's.

This is useful to know.

7.5V to 9V is also ideal for an Aurora though it can tolerate up to about 12V at the expense of more heat.

Actually amazing how many products from big companies don't clearly state voltage with tolerance and current needed.

The max voltage stated above is assuming a linear 7805 regulator and as Jeffrey has explained is to limit the internal temperature rise of the Hedghog.

If using a switching regulator the maximum input voltage can be increased with little temperature increase. But bear in mind that it is recommended that the capacitors the supply side of the switching regulator should be rated at twice the max supply voltage.
