The board needs some pads solder linking : SCK on top of the board to enable a local clock, and on the underside pads 1 Low for normal latency, pads 2 Low for de-emphasise off, pads 3 high for un-mute, pads low for audio format I2S.
Then connect VIN to Pi5 pin 2, GND to pin 6, LCK to pin 35, DIN to pin 40 and BCK to pin 12
Then in config.txt uncomment dtparam=i2s=on and comment out dtparam=audio=on
and then insert:
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dac
And amend dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,composite,noaudio
Finally create a asound configuration file:
sudo nano /etc/asound.conf
pcm.!default {
type hw card 0
}
ctl.!default {
type hw card 0
}
And then you should get sound. Can’t say I understand all of the code but pieced it together from a number of places so thought it might save others the effort, the AliExpress board is poorly documented.

Hi Mike
Well done on getting that working.
The Pi 5 has changed a lot compared to earlier Pi's. Making it harder to find ones way around.
I have found many of the "how to" online videos etc. don't apply to the Pi 5 because of the changes.
There is a lot of configuration editing needed to get something like this working. I can see how this is off-putting for many.
I know little about the Pi's so this may be a silly question. But I was wondering is there a way to reduce that or make it automatic in a way that it would make it more user friendly to get it installed and working.
