In 1972 I bought a Philips 790 tuner/amp a Philips 308 turntable, two Goodman's Havant speakers and a year later, a Sharp 442H cassette deck, from Comet in Stockport for around £150. That's about £1700 in today's money. So comparatively expensive, but possibly better built?
The Philips tuner gave up the ghost about fifteen years ago and I replaced it with a Leak 2000 tuner/amp I bought on eBay for about sixty quid, I liked it so much I bought another as a spare for about the same money.
This of course was before vinyl became "fashionable" again and prices increased.
I've replaced the belts in both the cassette player and the turntable and have more spares.
Everything works fine and is in regular use.
I'm using a vintage Shure M75 ED type 2 cartridge

The background noise is the little Lumix camera
This cassette is probably as old as the machine.

I also use the Leak with my jukebox wall boxes.
This is a YouTube rip, like many selections on my two wall boxes.
