Hedghog + 819

A few years ago I brought the Philips 14TX113A back to life. This is an interesting model that works in 4 systems. I have now wiped the dust off it and hooked it up to a Hedghog converter. I set the Pos/AM modulation and turned on the fast scan mode for video and audio. I watched the changes on the screen and in the loudspeaker in real time. Within a few minutes I had a great picture on a 625 line system and on two 819 systems with a 5.1 (nominal 5.5) and 9.6 (nominal 11.15) sound carrier. Free adjustment of video and audio frequencies allows for precise synchronization of the converter with the receiver.

The service manual for the Philips 14TX113A can be downloaded from the electrotanya.com website. Switching the line output stage between 625 and 819 lines is surprisingly simple. The real clever design is in the switching of the signals circuits between the different standards.

My own ambition is to find a 405/819 line receiver which was specially made for Northern France and the Channel Islands.

I have a Philips receiver from the early 50's. It has a system switch on the side wall, which was not standard in this model. I remember that everything looked like a factory product, not home-made. There are letters E / England ?/ and B / Belgium ? / next to the switch. If so, maybe they are 405/819 systems?

E is French 819. B is standard European 625.

I also met the E-Europe proposal. It remains only to look further for the 405/819 TV

Not sure when the letter codes for systems were first used. System A was assigned retrospectively to 405.

Letter codes were first used probably in 1961. This is according to the documentation of the ITU meeting in Stockholm: European VHF/UHF Broadcasting Conference - Special Regional Conference, CER.
