Great Day At Ryhope Engines Museum Classic Car Show

Hi me & Sheila had a great day at Ryhope Engines Museum in Sunderland & it was a pleasure to see Geordie McBoyne there as well . There was a good turn out of various types of vehicles from pre war to the present day . The Ryhope Pumping station was built in 1868 to supply water to the Sunderland area and It was pumping water continuously till 1967. Now is in preservation and is a Grade 2 listed building and is now kept working by volunteers to keep the 2 100 horsepower engines and the Lancashire boilers running . A great piece of North East of engineering from R & Hawthorn in Newcastle kind regards Bob

Its a bit off topic Bob, but I spend half the day looking on youchoob at such things as water pumping stations, hit and miss engines, old Caterpillar rebuilds,
and my true love AFTER valve based electronics,
Alfa Romeo cars. A maker from whom I have purchased and aquired quite a few over time. 

Great forum where one can "spill over " from its intended topic without being banned for 10,000 years.

I think ‘Windoze’ originated in the days of platform wars and associated snobbery (which worked both ways) when systems ran very slowly and some Mac Users considered it a cheap and clunky imitation of the system they’d been using for years before Windows appeared – and others simply considered it slow. (However IIRC Steve Jobs and the other guys of early Apple when wanting a GUI interface designing nipped down the road to a mate who was a software wizard called Bill Gates...)

We have some interesting water pumping stations near us one of which near Bratch canal locks looks like a French Chateau. Birmingham’s supply – all the way from the Elan Valley in Wales – arrives by gravity until close to the city.

I haven’t been to any classic car shows this year. I have run my old Beetle a bit. It's not a concours item but tidy enough and gets a few comments when it’s on the drive. Just had its 51st Birthday.

No horrible electronics in this car.  Almost everything is an easy fix in the event of anything ever going wrong.

Hi it was a good turn out the beam engine is a working exhibit and is steamed up a few times a year ( look on the Ryhope Engines website ) . A proper North East feat of engineering at its best no cheap alloy metals here . The Model A looks better in real life and that is proper engineering as well and David is right it easy to fix and no horrible electronics once it is running you don't need the battery kind regards Bob

I am a frequent visitor to Kew Steam Museum, lovely engines! You get an annual pass for entry and they have a rather good cafe too (only 20 minutes from home, breakfast and steam what is not to like?). The engines are run quite often and you can climb the stairs of the engines (those Victorians really liked to show off their achievements) to see the various bits working. Kempton steam is also quite close but not open that often, it has electrical bits too.
Both are well worth visiting.

Nice to see other steam Museums still exist the Rhyhope Engines Museum is owned and funded by Northumbrian Water and is staffed by volunteers that take pride in keeping it as a working attraction . There is no admission fee to pay at the steaming days and it is a static exhibit that is open every Sunday afternoon from 14.00 to 17.00 between Easter till the end of December and there is I nice Food / Tea room that is open on steaming days kind regards Bob
