Radio Grill Cloth

Bought two of the largest pieces from Michael Katz and wanted to say how pleased I am with them.

Both (#1 and #11) are very open and acoustically transparent with a little stretch which helps getting a taut result.

He packs in a strong plain envelope, no "Radio Gizz Me" stickers on them to attract attention and postage was $7 each as I ordered separately.

I'd be interested to see some pictures of the cloth after you've fitted it to your radios.

You are welcome Steve but it may be some while. Took time to get here with the Postal strike not helping. Now into more pressing projects.

Should have said #1 is a very satin (shinny) which may not suit some radios. It may dull given time.

Bought a cloth for a radio from a company, on the same ARF list, that has a grand title starting with the name of an English town and you could have used it in a deck chair.

I've looked into buying grill cloth from a number of USA sellers but I've not been confident that their product pictures show the true colour and texture of the cloth.

That is always a gamble unless you can get the seller to send you a sample. Michael might do a couple for you but it will cost you the $7 post. Actually his colours are not too bad for #1 and #11 although it doesnt show the shine of #1.

I could possibly let you have a small snip of those as I bought large pieces 20" x 24"

Dont think anyone in the UK does suitable cloth and I have tried looking around material shop with no luck.

My Ekco A22 speaker cloth had a hole in it.
An idea from my wife when out shopping we visited several charity shops. I bought a modern ladies "top" in a charity shop £2.50 I think. In a patterned brown, it covered the original cloth nicely and looks ok.
I now have some spare material just in case of another restoration.
Unlikely, though, as the A22 was my first domestic one for many decades.
I do have the Bush BAC31 to lok at sometime, but that has a metal grille.
