Isolator, lamp and Variac

I finally got fed up with wobbly bits of wood with lamps, transformers and other bits strung across the bench.
This is the result, finally in one place. No great innovation, but you might be amused at the panel window that allows the lamp to be enclosed but seen clearly. Very retro and appropriate I thought.
It contains:
- isolator (100W, 240V and 115V output - enough for most sets)
- lamp (100W)
- variac (0.5A - lucky find at £5 at a BVWS do)
- switching and lamps - large orange one for mains on!
The front panel is just laser-printed film stuck on.
Over-engineered, but with my limited bench space, much neater and always to hand, so more likely to be used!

Now that is the dog's b****x I so wish I could build home-brew like you guys, superb Jeremy, absolutely superb.

One feature I would have liked would be a built in meter but there's not a lot of room, I cannot get over how professional it looks, you should market them I would buy one.

WOW!! That is wonderful!
Mine is a chunk of wood with a batten holder and a double socket.. No switch either, to apply full mains I just plug it and plug it into the bench.

Over-engineered it may be but that's the beauty of vintage gear so it's very appropriate.

No magic, just hours of metal bashing on an old box (already lots of holes in the front so I just reversed it and stuck a plate on the back!). the front panel can be done on the PC and just laser or inkjet printed. old-fashioned OHP film for laser or inkjet printing is quite cheap.

I did think about a meter but don't usually bother with current draw on mains kit once I know the good old lamp is not glowing too much. Or did you mean voltage?
Maybe in the Mk3 (yes this is already at Mk2!) but not now, or I will spend time building test kit and never actually mending anything!
