Trevor,
I don't think that's a problem that's peculiar to us, Rover or the car industry in general. Unfortunately a great deal of noise can be made by a small number of people. Does anyone really know what proportion of K Series engines actually failed? I suspect not as there are/were an awful lot of them made. I agree however that there is a tendency with high volume production to ignore problems unless they actually cost suffiecient money, remember the Ford Pinto.
My favourite (?) car story is the Mini, a car I never liked, mainly because they were such a bugger to work on. I spent years thinking 'When are they going to make the front panel removeable?' and 'When are they going to design a decent (lightweight) engine instead of this 1938 lump?' Of course they never did
Alan
