Fixing crack in stone birdbath

Aralditing the crack helped but it was still leaking a bit. I bought this resin kit: https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Automot...Kit/p61034 I mixed up half the resin (about 120ml) which was more than enough to throroughly coat the inside of the bath. Added water a few hous ago, so far so good.

I have used exterior filler on these types of cracks on a few stone feed trough and old butler sinks used for a small goldfish pond.when the fine cement type filler dries it can be painted with coffee or cow dung to colour the filler and make it blend in.

I often use epoxy for these types of repair, adding various powder type ingredients to the mix dependant on what needs doing to camoflage the repair to some extent. I have even used glass fibre with epoxy, but I find it does not wet the fibres well.

Cow dung makes the moss grow for that authentic aged look.
Gearboxes and diffs, a pair (or one if you can have a nylon?) of nylons shuts them up a treat, do not ask where I learnt that.

Cement, ordinary portland would have done the job, maybe mixed in with lime paste. I used to use cement to fix leaks on my boat. To stop cracks spreading when I helped repair old stone buildings we used to use a kit made by Kilti which is basically a threaded rod inserted into a hole filled with some sort of epoxy.

When we had new uPVC windows fitted last year there was a potential problem. Being a bungalow, there are only a couple of brick courses above each window - except one, which is under the apex of the roof and it was suggested that, when the previous aluminium frame window was replaced that a lintel would be required because of the reduced strength of the uPVC frame.

However, the window company put us in touch with a chap who specialises in brick stitching - which sounds like what you described, Andy - who spent a couple of hours drilling the bricks and literally stitching them together using steel rods.

Maybe it was the wrong upvc frame, some have metal reinforcing inside the upvc.

All the cavity wall houses I worked on had lintels spanning window openings etc from day one, concrete or later on Catnic style.

Possibly, Mike, but this is quite a wide window.

They used to make concrete lintels with built in wall ties spaced at intervals to suit facing bricks plus mortar.
