today a mate phoned to ask if i wanted an old tape player he said it came frome a shed clear he had done he also told me it was an akai
told him i would give him £10 two hour later it was mine. on first look i did not hold out much hope see pic 1 apart from being in a shed it had also been rained on,the mains lead had been cut 1" from the case but at least the wood work looked ok.on removing the top plates it was obvious a lot of the grease had gone hard, so this was cleaned off with 3 in 1 oil
and re greased the rubber idlers ect did not look to bad and were just cleaned with hot water.ran up with a variac and at about 90 volt the motor started to turn, as no sign of distress pluged it into full mains.
useing the tape that came with it started to check every thing amazingly all mec functions worked fine, apart from record button would not depress
this was due to more grease that i had missed. next pluged in a set of head phones ,no out put , the reason for this was i had disturbed a plug from the power suppy, now all seamed to work so put back together, the heads need cleaning and the track sellector and left hand line input level controle need cleaning when i have more time all in all £10 well spent
