1'st time I saw HP aerials was when we moved to Chester-le-Street in late 50's, I thought the pictures would be sideways or upside down, but were normal of course. Remember seeing some band 1 HP aerials in Skegness for the local TX, also some HP band 3's pointing out to sea, presumably to Mendlesham before Belmont fired up..

Which TX was the first to use HP?

In the UK, Pontop Pike and Belfast according to the attached item.

Thanks for that Sychrodyne. I remember reading somewhere of a sloping long wire band 1 aerial being used that was strung in the direction of the TX, I presume this is a Beverage type aerial, I expect this would only work on a VP TX though. Could also be used for band 3 as well I suppose..

Hi.
I didn't think a Beverage would work up at band 1. The cubical quad is an aerial to consider for band1 and 3 come to think of it. It looks as if the BHTG could be on it's way to a licence and I'll be building a quad attached to this http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/1249619/ for carrier recognition.

Hmm, I wonder if the long wire band 1 job works like a sort of cut down half rhombic aerial working against earth if not a Beverage type aerial? I presume it's some kind of traveling wave aerial..
