Dual Standard TV set

Hi as described on the UKVRR I have a RGD Deep 17 as my main old TV & I would like a dual standard tv to my collection & what would you recomend ? that is reliable with a good picture not too big & not rare as rocking horses poo

I'm prepared to be convinced. All I can say, supported by Andy above, is that I spent many a long year fighting all the compromises and particularly the System Switches.

The VC52  and VC53 are virtually identical and worthy of equal consideration.

Prior to the VC51 were the VC1/2/3 chassis - I'm not sure if there was also a VC4. Why the sudden jump in  numbering to the 5x series, I never fathomed out!

I think some of these earlier chassis had LOPT troubles in later life but there is virtually no difference between most of them.

Perhaps others might wish to add their experiences of them ...

The Bush TV125 series might be worthy of interest, also the Baird 660 series.

I wouldn't have wanted the job of designing a dual standard set.

Back to topic, I will throw my hat in the ring with the KB camp for being amongst the more deserving candidates.

There was a VC4, introduced in 1966, considered to be nicest looking sets in the range of models in the VCxx series. 1963 to 1969. Actually, the VC1 is a good bet after all the modifications have been done.
The CRT was the type which was called Rimband 1 by Mazda or Panorama by Mullard. Tube types A47-11X and A59-11X. Because the CRT P band extended to the outer edges of the screen a mask was employed to hide it so giving the set it's unique look.
The VHF tuner was the then industry favourite, the Philips AT7650, also used in the Philips Style 70 series.
Now there's another good dual standard set to consider.

You could strip the system switch in the Philips for cleaning without too much bother, did loads of them back in the day.

On the subject of dual standard sets, can anybody advise of an internet site that covers these beast? I've asked everywhere and am still trying to identify a dual standards Stella b/w television that I used to have my nose stuck to as a kid. Suspect mid 60s build, was finally retired in early 1980s for a Sony KV2204UB, and that set was a story in itself.

I remember that the Stella was gold in colour, gold x arms stand and the very bottom tuning knob did the UHF, with vertical sliders above for the brightness and contrast. Blasted thing used to eat PL valves for dinner, television engineer was around roughly every 4 months to stick a new valve in.
