No, it doesn't sound quite right, or look right with them standing around all dressed up! Here is a very well-known merchant navy song about leaving the ship at the end of the voyage. There were some hard-hungry, hard-worked, ships around even when I first went to sea, and it came as a surprise to some that I survived it, as I was a bit weedy at the time 
Absolutely hated it at first, but pride would not let me admit it, and so I went back, as did so many others. Sailed in 19 ships, ten of which were passenger liners, and they were the best of the best!
