Hi all,
I have a Cossor 494AC that my father and I have been working on. After the usual no power checks, we followed the advice on this forum and changed C18 and C20 (as per trader sheet 924). We then applied power via a lamp limiter, which worked very well.
Under power we were greeted by a strong hum from the speaker, but nothing in terms of audio. What we found was that there is a connection issue on Valve 1, moving it around a little on the valve holder brought immediate audio with plenty of volume. The first problem we had was that turning the volume control had no effect, so we changed C16 which fell apart as we removed it. That solved the volume issue and the radio is now working well on all wavebands.
But (there's always a but), although the volume side of the pot works well, the switch itself isn't working, it's permanently 'on' at the moment. Is there anything that we can do about this or do we need another volume pot?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated please.
Gary
