This is a Means to a Means to an end. With luck all be clear in the near future.
I need to cut some Steel Sheet. I've got a Pneumatic Shear and a Nibbler which both claim to cut 16g (1.6mm) but actually don't - they break. I've also got a simple Shear which is OK for thin stuff and Aluminium. Last year I picked up a heftier Clarke one at an Auction. I haven't actually done anything with it in the meantime because I haven't needed to, but now's the time.
It's an older version of one of these I believe - https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ...hears?da=1&TC=RV-051210074
The Label says CPS40 whatever that means but the Numbers look to match.
I wouldn't actually fancy its chances on 4mm Steel or a 12mm Bar but it should be OK for what I want.
Clearly it's meant too be bolted down and indeed I could drill 4 Holes in the Bench and do that. However, it would be pretty inconvenient. What I did with the smaller one was attach a 'Foot' to it so that I could clamp it into the Bench Vice. The Vice swivels and lifts the Work above Bench level so I can get much better access.
So, a search through the Scrap produced some Box Section and Angle which looked promising when together.
A bit of Sawing:-
Does it fit?
Looks promising so a bit of Welding and Grinding:-
A bit of Drilling:-
Bolt it up:-
And give it a go:-
And Robert's your Father's Brother.
By the way, the consensus in the Pub was that painting it would be OTT
