Our farmer has one of these Sony CRT TVs that he no longer uses. Is it worth anything to anyone or is it a tip visit?
Need to decide quickly, its spring cleaning time and there is lots of stuff to get rid of.

If the tube is OK, it's a nice set, well engineered. Hard to get CRTs these days for specific tasks.

As far as we know it is working fine. Clean and tidy too. t was replaced with a flat one for cosmetic reasons only.
Would be a shame to dump a good one, when they are gone, that's it.

CRTs are making a bit of a comeback due to several reasons, picture quality being one, but the main fact due to being able to work with retro technology better than any flat screen. Witness a 35 year old Atari 2600 attached to a LCD, duff graphics and a right mish mosh to play, all cleared up when attached to a CRT set.

I went specifically out of my way to get a couple of CRT tellies just for my retro computer collection, because they work.

But the flat screens don't give you a hernia when the wife wants everything moved for spring cleaning. We had a Sony 32" CRT and we could no longer move it between us. The 6 or more year old Sony Bravia (whose picture I prefer to the CRT) can be moved with a hand under each corner and a steadying hand on top.

I'd give you that. We used to have a KV2204UB set, bonzer picture, but a right bugger to shift even on it's wheeled display stand.

I'm having trouble moving it, as in getting rid of it. Unashamed BuMp coming up..........

Does anyone actually want it rather than talk about it? Time is running out and it is a scandal to chuck it when its in spanking condition.

I fear I took one to the Tip when we downsized - just not enough room

When my Mother-in-law recently passed away I took 3 perfectly good CRT TV's to the tip, I couldn't even give them away. SWMBO wants me to dump my late Mums Elizabethan 12" B/W TV she received free when she bought a Sony Trinitron 18" in 1972, that's defo not for the tip..

In '72 I used to work on a Saturday in Windows hi fi section in Newcastle. A major attraction is that even as a 16 year old working one day per week (pay=£2.67) you got to buy anything in the store at cost price, which was generally a third off. For me that was mainly records and hi fi gear. Of course I could not afford those on the Windows pay alone - but I was a mercenary sort back then. So I worked lunchtimes as chemistry lab boy, worked on a Sunday labouring on a house restoration, and sad to say I pocketed my dinner money and went hungry. I was clearing a tenner a week, which was a lot of money in the very early 70's.

But my mum and dad wanted a colour television, which they funded and I bought at a discount. That was a Sony Trinitron, at my recommendation. It was great for a year or so, but the blue gun progressively died leaving the whole thing with a sickly greenish cast. I suspect that this was a known problem with early trinitrons, because the CRT was replaced FOC IIRC. Anyone have a recollection of that problem?
