Powering a Technics SLBD20D 110v Turntable from 230v

This turntable uses a DC motor with electronic speed regulator circuits, and is a N. American market model, made (obviously) for 110-120vac @ 60Hz, but, having powered it via a MW2P045 230/240vac to 110vac Transformer, and played a familiar LP on it, which, to my ears, runs at the correct speed, as I'd expect it to, because of the DC motor, would there be any problems caused by long-term use of this T/T and inverter? (The latter is rated 45watts, or, more correctly I guess 45VA, @ 110v, which is more than adequate for the turntable) There is no pitch control on the SLBD20D, although there may well be internal pre-set(s) for accurately setting the speed if need be. This appears to be much the same as the UK market SLBD22D, for which I have the service data.

Don't see why that should pose a problem.
Can you download and print out a Strobe Disc to check the Speed?
If nothing get s hot over a sensible period I'd go for it.

If there is a small transformer in it just replace it with a 240V 50hz one.

The manual seems to indicate a B+ of around 11 volts.

It looks as though a pretty standard 9 Volt Transformer should suffice.

Get a cheap toroidal from Rapid or wherever - better transformer all round (pun intended), especially less stray magnetic fields = less hum from the cartridge...

To answer the various points made by Refugee, Alan, Lawrence, & Nick, yes it does have a small mains transformer fitted, and I have a small clamp-type Tx which o/ps 6-0-6v @100mA max, which is more than adequate for the Turntable, so I might fit that instead of the original. The exsisting bridge rectifier circuit should prioduce 13 - 14vDC from the full winding, which is higher than the 10vAC from the original Tx, but that way, I can fit a UK standard mains lead with 13A Plug (Fused @1 or 2A before anyone shouts!). Having said all that, the T/T runs quite happily from the 240/110v outboard transformer so I may just leave it as it is! I can download & print a strobe from somewhere, maybe Vinyl Engine, to check the speed.

Hi Sparky, is your outboard transformer a real iron and copper tranny or is it one of those switching types. You can usually tell from the weight, the switching ones are very light. they don't like feeding another transformer, it would run hot, and also damage the res capacitor. If it was me I,d fit a 230v transformer in place of the original. Using the one you have, try feeding the bridge from just 6v, may be enough or use 12v but cut one of the diodes in the bridge to make it half wave.
