The belts in the cassette mechanism had all turned to sticky black goo, and I'm having difficulty tracing how all four were routed. Is anyone familiar with this mechanism? It was made by ALPS-Motorola according to a sticker on it, and has the ITT part no.CW8IT61D (7738-25A) if that helps. I cannot find a manual for the 5036 anywhere on the 'net.
Further to the above, I have now thoroughly cleaned the sticky goo off all the idlers and other places (What a time consuming and dirty job!) and I think I've worked out the correct routing for all the drive belts, so now I have to obtain the necessary ones, plus a couple of rubber tyres, one for the clutch/feed spool assembly, and one for what appears to be the FF/Rew idler
Hopefully when all this is done the cassette deck will be (almost!) as good as
new, but an exploded diagram of the mechanism would be useful. Maybe ITT manuals are as rare as 'hen's teeth'
