I'm making some more beehives and want to use Western Red Cedar for this.
All the *real* timber merchants in the UK seem to only stock 2" x 6" or 8" sawn and I need 1" x 6" finished (PAR).
This means that I have a shed-load of wastage and correspondingly stupid stock costs. To get 1" (25mm) finished, you need 32mm sawn and with the smallest stock at 50mm, its nuts.
So, anyone know of a way round this - I only need 460mm (say, 500mm) lengths (National Standard beehives are 460mm square).
I need a source (CHEAP-ISH) of 25mm x 150mm (finished) Red Cedar or the equivalent in sawn (about 32mm x 160mm) as I have a planer-thicknesser to finish.
Help!
What really annoys me is that you can buy 12 ft planks of this stuff in Canada for about CAD 14$ (about GBP 8.75) - best quotes I have here are many times that... SWMBO & I were even considering going to the sheds in Northern France to see if we could do better there as its only an hour away for us (and have a decent meal or two...).
