I have an amateur radio chum who lives in Sheffiled and who - like me - lost interest in amateur radio many years ago. He's cleared out most of his amateur radio gear but has a Lowe 'HF225' general coverage short wave receiver which in its day (late 80s - 90s) was, and I believe still is, highly regarded. He wishes to sell it, but doesn't have much idea about how much to ask for it, so has asked my advice. The obvious thing most would say is 'stick it on e-bay' where it would find its level, and where he could always put a reserve on it, but he doesn't use e-bay and doesn't wish to. I've suggested that he put an advert in Radcom and PW mag.
There's one for sale at Radioworld at £299.00, but of course that is a dealer who in fairness will have had to add 20% VAT on his buying price, and will have to offer a warranty.

One on e-bay went for £190, and another for £130.
It's had little use but (like other HF225s it seems) has a few flakes of grey paint missing from the edges of the top cover.
I'd guess that about £175.00 would be a sensible price, but wondered if any other forum members who are more into amateur radio and shortwave listening than I am, might have a view on this.
Any thought would be welcome.
There's a review of the receiver at the MW Circle website here:

Incidentally, if anyone is interested in this, I'll happily put my chum in touch with them.
