I bought these Mission 730's cheaply even though they had no tweeters, and the mids/woofer surround had rotted, mainly for the Peerless mids. The mids I have fixed, the cabs are immaculate, the X-overs all tested and well. But I've hit a bit of a brick wall.
Firstly, I'm having trouble establishing exactly what tweeters were originally in the cabs. The chap I got them off said Celestion MF1000 and HF2000. Contacted Falcon, they said according to our info the tweeters originally were SEAS. Which makes sense as I have a few pairs of Vintage Mission speakers which indeed do use SEAS tweeters.
I'm having great difficulty finding a replacement foam surround for the woofers. They are an odd size. A 9 1/2" 24.5cm B 22cm C 18.3/5 D 16.5, this last being the killer. Goodhifi can't help. I've tried everywhere else I can think of.
Apart from making them in to coffee tables, or worse, does anyone know of any good vintage Hifi sites for info. Failing that could I replace the woofers with modern replacements, if so what? Or start from scratch.
Any advice most welcome. Andy.
