French Oceanic tv radiogram

Hi ive gone and bought another unusual tv . It looked good by the pictures but when i went to pick the set up i was shocked i paid a lot for this i could have said no and run but im made of stronger stuff and felt sorry for it !. Some one had to save it. The set has had the record deck removed and screws were missing all over the place. Wires were floating around disconnected years ago. The biggest problem is missing valves in the tv section there is no layout diagram . So far ive removed the radio section and evicted some spiders i shall probrably recap the radio first and find a suitable record deck which will need a motor board making up . I havent decided how far i shall go with the cabinet i may do a total refinish or just patch it up .Has anyone got any french tv diagrams so i can see what could have been used for the line output valve ? The tv has a large mains transformer and i would think it supplies the valves in paralell 6.3v remaining valves are philips manufacture. I do seem to attract poor sets these days but so far have come up trumps on all. My weak spot is tv sets that also do other things such as radios and grams . Danny

Hi if its mullard/philips then it could be an El38 but i dont know I have had a look at some valve data and 6CD6 comes to mind ? but i havent taken the tv shassis out yet as i want to do the radio section first in the hope if part of it works that will give me insperation to go on to the next hurdle. The more i look at this the more i cringe all rubber wires have bad perishing. This tv has two magic eyes one in the radio and a diffrent type in the crt mask. Danny

Unusual bit of kit Danny, which doesn't look too bad externally. If you have a model number, you might find some info on French forums if you do a search, (look for the 'recherche' (serach) facility and type in the make and model, and see what comes up if anything!). or post a request. They’re in French of course, but you can use a translation website such as google or babel fish if your French isn’t up to it:

('Tsf' is the French term for radio, or rather 'wireless' is 'telegraphie sans fils' - 'telegraphy without wires'. The French term for valves/tubes is 'lampes').

(‘Oceanic’ was also a brand in the US too).

As to perished rubber wires, by far the best replacement I've found is silicone rubber insulated flex, which comes in two gauges and is in a range of retro colours rather than modern gaudy PVC flexes. It's heatproof (a soldering iron makes no impression on it), and strips very easily. It's sold by Phil Marrison who goes under the name of 'SWB 18' on the UK VRF (wash my mouth out!). You might like to drop him a PM on there. He usually has a little stand at the NVCF too.

Hi sadly no model no i have done a google but not come up with anything. I shall be joining the radiomuseum asap as thay have the diagram for my wega tv. I have seen the chap with the silicone cable he also goes to harpenden but i wont wait that long so will use modern wire and hide it in insulation sleeving. the set does look reasonable from a distance but there is work to do on the cabinet as its got scrapes and scares all over the place. Ive won a garrard single player on ebay so hope to get a new motor board made this weekend and also have the radio powered up by then as well. Then its tv time .Thanks Danny
