Strangely, that was the bit I liked the look of! Someone has wired the earth pin of the 3 pin plug to a length of wire and a wander plug, I assume intended to be earth for the set, is it ok to use it or should that wire be removed?

Indeed, just need to organise some shelving in the 'shack'.

Now listening to AM radio in the car, at work and on the main station tranceiver... I'm finding I quite enjoy the odd pop and crackle on MW!

Ideally both those sets should have three-core flex on with the earth connected to the chassis. The wander plug certainly won't do any harm, providing it doesn't touch anything it shouldn't while you're fiddling about.

Hello Andrew, I like most HMV sets, and as you may have seen, I have one in my collection,
Two short wave bands that cover from 16-50mtrs, 50-187mtrs, MW from 187mtrs-582.5mtrs
and LW 719-2,026mtrs.

I restored mine about nine months ago, and I should really use it a bit more,

Would like to find an example of the export models, the 5111 and the 5112, these both have five wavebands,

A really nice radio when working, and nice and easy to work on.
