I remember now. The miller-transitron oscillator relies on the screen and anode currents being antiphase - see this load of drivel.
So that 'Franty cct doesn't make sense again. Time for a think.
Yeah, treated with respect I don't see projection sets as any worse than a colour set and still safer than mains EHT. You can also simply disconnect HT from the EHT generator whilst getting the rest of the set functioning and testing the CRT protection circuits prior to applying EHT.
