Vidor CN349: O/P valve query.

The correct valve is an EL33. But this set has a valve in that place that doesn't look like an EL33 (well, not to me, anyway). Although it is "O/P valve shaped" - like a 6V6G - the lower half of the glass envelope is metallized; the valve itself has lost its type markings.
Could it be an EL33 after all?

In a word - no. The metallizing is from the Bakelite (?) base to half way up the envelope; similar to a 6P25. This metallizing is the traditional grey - which I usually associate with an "R.F. type" of valve - not an A.F. output type. Hence my puzzlement.

Thanks Alan; I should have added a bit more data: the valve has an International Octal (but it might be a Mazda Octal) base. It might even be a 6P25!

And upon comparison of the data for a 6P25 and an EL33, they are indeed very similar, electrically. And the base pin-outs are the same. I reckon someone has plonked in a 6P25 here! Oh, and yes, upon checking, this unknown valve does have an IO base, not an MO.

Yup - that's just what this valve looks like. And as I said, it's a bit of a mystery since the type number is missing: it was probably originally on a chunk of the metallizing - which has since vanished.
