Pye Vanguard

My 1968 Velocette LE is an ex police bike and for a few years I've been on the lookout for a suitable transceiver for it, such as a Pye Westminster. It would not have to be in working order although that would be a bonus if it was or could be repaired. I see there is a Pye Vanguard on Ebay at the moment and I wondered if that was a model ever fitted to motorcycles:

As the Vanguard partly replaced the Westminster series I would guess that it could have been for replacement or requip situations.

A good place to watch might be the British tv series of the time.. they were generally pretty accurate when it came to police kit.

The Pye Vanguard were more for Cars/Vans, for the bikes were usually a pye westminster with a bike kit on consisting of a unit with control box fitted to the top of the Westminster with a headset attachement for bike headset, I will have look for a picture of it as I sold one to a chap for such a motorcycle.

I bought it anyway as it was only 99p although it is missing the control box. I don't think the Police used headsets but would have had a hand held microphone.

I said the set was only 99p but it needed to be picked up from Nairn which is about 50 miles from me and would cost over £20 in diesel. Yesterday I had a chap come to the door wanting carbon brushes for his washing machine. I found a pair for him but he had no money on him. I said he could bring the money next time he's passing and he mentioned he might be going to Inverness the next day. I said if he could pick up the Pye from Nairn for me on his way to / from Inverness I would not charge him for the brushes. The set just arrived, saving me a trip, jammie or what?
