I would avoid anything with wiring passing through a hinge. It is just asking for annoying intermittent faults.
We have a freezer with a door mounted display and controls. It has an inductive loop and a super-cap.
I see the display remaining lit when the door is open as optional anyway.

I use Thunderbird both on Linux and Windows too, I have two email addresses one on talk talk and the other Gmail both are linked to thunderbird.
I recently bought a brand new oppo from a site selling faulty new ones, it wouldn't read either the Sims (dual SIM card phone) or the SD card, the phone cost £35 and the fix took 10 minutes, it's 5G too.
I use Petal mail that's ok and both my emails can be accessed with it.
Without a Gmail account I doubt you'd be able to access the play store. Just use Gmail for signing up and nothing else then there is no issues.

I use one of those cases that are clear silicon material, softish to protect the back and sides and a screen protector. They are available from eBay and Amazon for under a tenner.

Now prob a dumb question but where is the . on a Android keyboard please? Cant seem to find it in Alpha or Numerals so cant type in email addresses properly.

Usually to right side of space bar or beside the m on the ABC.

There are different keyboards and the default settings on Google's gboard send usage to Google. You are warned about installing 3rd party (and you have to change after install in Settings), but some are better than gboard and private, despite Google's warning.

OK, spotted the . Must clean my glasses more often.

Downloaded K9 and trying it. Been trying to get Autofill working with it, I have found where it is set: Settings / Additional settings / Languages / Autofill services

You then get the option to set it for: None or Goggle or Edge. But Goggle setting only helps Gmail. So how to get it to work with T-Bird?

Do you have to get an App? years ago I had an Android tablet that got dumped. But I remember I got an App for that that offered up a choice of word in various programs. If one was the one wanted just tap. Useful in doing messages. This was possibly Auto Complete? Autofill seems, from reading, partly to be Form filling from stored data.

Any suggestions and help appreciated

Well made progress and now have Autofill and Predictive text wkg in T-Bird
What I missed was Contacts filling in which is like Address Book in OE Classic I use on the PC. Contacts prob works across multi Apps unlike Address Book which is specific to OE.

So prob OK now

Getting on quite well but confused myself over Texting. It may show in what I write here.

Tried to avoid getting into Goggle takeover. Have K-9 Mail working, MS Edge as the browser and making telephone calls.

Somehow I got a ********gmail.com address but it uses my home PC one in K-9 which is what I want. Maybe I dont need the gmail one? In Settings the Sim card comes up as Virgin and the number that came with it. Seems fine to me.

Tapped the Goggle Icon and used Contacts to enter those. It works to both mine and the wifes old Doro phones for Call (phone) but only to mine for Text. Odd. And odder it gets sent to a friend: maybe the person texted has to be a gmail ?

Perhaps I shouldnt have entered my contacts in the one which is part of Goggle? Perhaps like e-mail there is a better App for texting that can be downloaded?

Sorry if this is muddled but I am.

PS. Bought a 2023 book on using an Android phone but it is totally wedded to Goggle !
