So, I've got a couple of Rotel receivers to refurbish. The dial lamps are 'fuse like' 6.3v .25a 30mm x 6mm ish, hard to find?. I've got a couple coming from Bulgaria which are this years xmas pressy my wife tells me!. Anyone know where I could purchase UK/cheaper?. How about a led replacement?, I've seen some 6v led bike lamps but 8.5 dia (against 6mm) so a bit of a stretch! and how bright??. HELP!.

I would be tempted to salvage the end caps and make up an LED one.
Old flood lights can be scavenged for LED chips.

Since LEDs are unlikely to blow, they could be soldered in, without using the end caps.

Yellow LEDs are often a nicer colour for replacing filament dial lamps. Put a couple in series and pad with a resistor until you get the brightness you want. It's the sort of experiment I'd do from my drawers of spare parts.

But isnt  the supply AC?
I used an LED 5 years ago on an AWA and it needed a diode and a cap to stop flicker.

If the supply is AC then use 2 LEDs in inverse parallel. If they are close together, the fact that each is only on for half the time shouldn't be noticed. As I said before, just grab any old LEDs, any colour, from your spares box and do some experiments.
