Cleaning Variable Capacitors

Hi,
I don't know if this is the right place to post.
I have a couple of sets with really dirty variable capacitors before I do something silly and ruin them forever I seek some advice on how best to clean them or are they best just blown out with an air gun.

Any help greatly appreciated

You can either blow them out or put them in the dishwasher, if you do the latter, dont forget the re grease the bearings.

a mate of mine has a cheap utrosonic bath cost about £30 i take mine to him must be regreesed but look great
he uses it for cleaning clock mecs

Yes as Mark suggests, the dishwasher works great, oil bearings after, i do all mine that need it so far no problems, have even put a radio chassis through the dishwasher, the radio works great after a few days on the windowsill, in my radio room, heated by the radiator as well.....Alan.

Just took ran my variable capacitors through the dishwasher and they have come out very clean.
An interesting recommendation but thanks to everybody for it as I wouldn't have tried it otherwise
