Russian Army Comms

I have the day off today and our Slovakian window cleaner, his home town is 5km from the border, told me that kids in the Ukraine and further afield are getting the Russian Army radio traffic, he wondered how. I guessed it is good old analogue radio and explained it does not rely on masts etc.. A quick demo of a handheld to GB3BN showed the range of this sort of thing.
What do the Russian Army use for comms?
I want a PNP valve!

Apparently, some of it is still analogue and amateurs and enthusiasts in Ukraine have been intercepting so no doubt their military are too.
I read or heard a report – I can’t remember which now – from a reputable source that the reason the cell-phone system is still working in Ukraine is that the Russians use the system. I find this astonishing as I would have thought that destroying such infrastructure would have been first on the list for an invading army.
