can anyone sugest a way of removing them? other sets i tried to do this you can still see where they have been

Pushing them out from the back onto something firm but soft, like a folded towel is the best I've come up with but I've never been able to completely remove all trace.

It's interesting to see how similar the dial is to the much earlier models - don't fix it if it ain't bust I suppose.

The problem with removing dings is that they stretch the metal, and there's no way to shrink it back. You could try laying it front first onto a firm surface, and gently working the curved handle of a teaspoon over the damaged area, but not pressing so hard that you deform the open slits in the grille.

The worse problem with RIC 1s is if the TAD100 IC - long since obsolete - packs in, though they're not noted for being unreliable. The TAD100 was almost a complete radio, so can't be worked around with a mod. Unfortunately, Roberts have drifted into the wilderness on several occasions by trying to be innovative (or maybe cut production costs?) - the TAD100, the ghastly Mullard RF, IF and audio modules, and the awful Revival with its minimalist PCB, though in its defence, despite the undersized speaker, the audio doesn't sound too bad. But the lack reverse polarity protection if a wall wart with the wrong polarity is inserted is a serious shortcoming. Roberts defence would be - 'only use our PSU'. My rejoinder to that would be 'surely you put a higher price on your reputation on a radio that you market for £150, than the price on a one penny diode?' Apparently not.

i have what i consider much worse a model r309, when it came to me the digital display showed nothing caused by dry joints the volume control and band swich both needed cleaning and lastly wont tune on mw. but worst of all is the sound quality or lack of it, i like the old ones and use my r500 as portble of choise, i only bought the rc1because it was cheep and looked like a proper roberts

I've a couple of these RIC1's, one with a pushed in grill and one with no grill at all. The former is stretched and will probably never get straightened For the one with no grill at all, I was wondering if anyone could suggest something that'd make a reasonable cover?

In both instances the TDA100's are alive and well. Remarkably, the sets work down to 4 volts and produce a reasonable base sound too (well, for a tr*ns*st*r set anyhow).

I have a few RIC 1 radios from car boots and they all worked fine first time. If any one has a dud TAD 100 they don't need I would like to buy one for display. John.
