Resoldered - no joy!

Decided to go for broke and take the black frame off to find this - i do have a feeling that this is the end of the road with this radio.

The conductive strips can be a PITA.
Whats behind the white plastic diffuser?

It just appears to be glass - I assume that this is a liquid crystal display?

The front part is the LCD the conductive strips are behind it, then the white diffuser which gives the display an even illumination. The LEDs should be behind or round its edges.

They are not on the edge so I assume that they are behind it.

Quite possible.
Youll see how modern tech is not repair friendly. One reason many repair shops no longer exist.

What am I saying, the glass section has the 2 connections marked A and K which was why Nick asked about the soldering. I've looked behind the glass and I cannot see any let's so am I correct in think that the glass is the means of illumination??

Hi Rob.
Now that's a question. It's possible there is embedded LEDs but don't quote me on that, it's 15 years since I closed the shop doors and I tend to avoid modern tech so this possible or some other form of illumination.

May not be LED. Could be EL.

This may be a very silly suggestion. If you put a light, any light, behind the panel, can you read the display? If so, you've got a fix.
