Did anyone watch the repair shop today.
The "expert" restored what looked like a 1969 Grundig KS742 Radiogram.
The record deck was the wrong type it was changed by the current owners father some time in the past.
So that was replaced with a one similar to what the model would have had.

But the radio, it was mentioned the tuning control had been turned too far so was broke.
One would think the repair would be fairly easy to restring and check over the electrics.
The radio/amplifier started off looking like this.

Its amazing what restorers can do these days.

I make a point of not watching that programme.

However, there's quite a new prog called 'Restoration Workshop' (on Tuesdays and repeated at the weekend). That's more worth watching as you sometimes do get see materials and methods used, i.e. you can learn something, sometimes, which I don't think is true with Repair Shop.

been watching that too its much more informative and shows just how much some will pay for a unique one off

Assuming these programmes show real sales, there must be a lot of people with lots of money to spend on real tosh.

But if that is so, maybe I too should start trying some wacky restoration of old junk.

The guy on Restoration Workshop has got a tremendous imagination to be able to look at what seems like total rubbish, but spend a few hours on it and sell it for many hundreds of pounds. I don't think I have that ability...but perhaps I could develop it?

I watched the ep of The Repair Shop yesterday that featured the 1946 radiogram.

The one that tripped all the lights when the repairer plugged it in.

Very impressive.

Not an item of test equipment to be seen.

Happily there's a different chap doing that sort of thing these days who seems rather more au fait with the elektrickery.

And has a fair selection of test equipment.

It's got to be better than the American TV programme Secret Restoration.

I noticed a few weeks ago from a trailer that they were going to "restore" a Rock-Ola 443 vinyl jukebox.
I was interested, as here's mine I've had for fifteen years. I didn't so much as restore it, more "tarted it up."



The subject they "restored" looked a bit scruffy, but it could be improved quite a bit.

Instead, this is what they did.
The machine was missing its cash box door. So they just painted round the hole!
