Potting compound

Found it good, worked just like it says.  However, you have to use it all in one bash and I'm only into small items.  Anyone tried snipping into each end and taking equal measures out then resealing the bag at each end, for future use?

Alternatively, would silicon sealant work?  Maybe putting the tube in hot water to get it as thin as possible before squirting over just the top of the circuit board.  I have no clue for what the thermal conductivity is like for this stuff, not that there are any really hot components but you need to be careful with ratings once thing are sealed up ...

Back in the day the place where I worked switched over entirely to the Twin-pack stuff simply because the Workers couldn't/wouldn't get the Ratios correct. I don't see why you shouldn't use small quantities if you're careful.

The problem with a lot of Silicon Sealers is that they give off Acetic Acid as they cure. That (potentially) rots Tracks and Components. It's usually just use to stabilise largish Components against Vibration. I suspect the Thermal Conductivity isn't too good.

For small things would epoxy resin adhesive work? You can get it in Poundland and, despite the low price, it's certainly good for sticking things.

Often ordinary epoxy resins stress the components too much during curing. You want something that doesn't go rock hard.

Thanks Alan, seems the way to go and if it doesn't work out the stuff is pretty cheap. Buy some, practise with the quantities on junk and sealing it up and see how it goes.

For small stuff i have been using hot melt glue an idea stolen (i think )from Trevor /murphy 310.

That's a good idea Rob, stays nice and chewy ! Don't know what the thermal conductivity is like so have to watch that.
