Just done this for a friend. Actually printed two outputs in different Pantone shades. The chevrons are a 70% tint.

It has been printed on best photo paper and with proper inks and after several coats of lacquer should be fine. The one done on my Pilot Super Wasp is excellent 10 years on.
It will be glued into a bezel with a raised edge which hopefully should make positioning easier. Adhesive to use is 3M Photo Mount which is non acidic and yellowing.
The A3 printer was almost essential as it is 371 mm long. It could have been done on an A4 using panoramic photo paper (if it is still available) which is how I did the Wasp. Downside of that is having to buy a pack of paper at about £25 for a one off job (its around £2 a sheet if I remember correctly).
The A3 isn't quite as bad at £1 a sheet and I have photos for the wall to print out so buying a pack wasnt a problem.
