Phillips disc jockey major

I rescued a Phillips disc jockey major and two music centres from up our road as they were clearing the house out .Are the needles avaloae still or will I have to change the cartridge .I will have recap it as it has. The horrible black caps fitted and the reservoir cap a 50/50 if I will have to buy on from the bvws ones as I have not had much luck with re-stuffing.

Philips Cartridges and Styli are often a bit odd. Musonic or ebay are usually the best bet.

The original cartridge will more than likely have turned to goo inside by now, and will certainly be past it's best
so it may be false economy to change the stylus, replacement cartridges are available but not cheap.

Although I believe some people have gutted the headshell, and used a SC12-H as a replacment.

Or you can do something completely off the wall like replace the crystal inside!

The best thing you can do with these is put them down and back away slowly...

I took a look at this discount electronic store suggested by Paul. There's a link you have to follow to buy the £5.99 Ceramic Stereo Cartridge BSR SC12H BSR ST21 as offered - you can't buy directly from the site. The link takes you to Maplins, who are asking a whopping £32.99 for the cartridge.
Is it me, or has the world gone mad? And how do you get the £5.99 version? I guess you don't.

I did have a look at that one I don't know how easy it would be to convert and would it play 78 .

this is some thing I want to try any ideas about what to use as a replacement crystal.
