I know zilch about FET's except that they normally have a high input impedance as I used to make regens with them years ago.
It wouldn't take much to knock up a seperate osc, (never tried the classic tapped cathode Hartley at those low frequencies)
to drive the FET then you can tune the tank for el maximo.
